I have always loved to draw! As a child, a neighbor (Mrs Blackburn)
nurtured my talent by giving me art supplies as gifts, taking
me to the symphony, and having tea and drawing parties.
Growing up, drawing became one means of dealing with anxiety
when life seemed to be spiraling out of control. My Mom knew
to check my room if I had disappeared, because I was usually
there with a pencil and an art pad.
After graduating High School in 1974, my artwork dwindled.
I was married in 1979 and had two sons within three years. My
creativity took many different paths of outlet in order to create
a home: quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, hand sewing curtains
and pillows, wood working... Drawing was seldom done except for
the yearly anniversary card or occasional birthday card for friends
of the family.
It
wasn't until after going through a season of sickness, divorce
and then getting married to my soulmate that my drawing re-emerged
and blossomed. It became one of my ways of journaling because
I would chronical things that I remembered, things that actually
happened, things that I dreamed, things that I wantted to do
and ways to encourage myself and others.
After a few years of drawing and "pencil painting" I
decided I wanted to create a line of greeting cards and "A
View from a Heart of Mersea" was born.
I believe that in the beginning the world was created by God
to be a place of beauty, for joy and spiritual growth. In our
present age we tend to forget about this because we tend to focus
on making a living and the fearful conditions and events in the
world. Sometimes we need to have a little reminder of the beauty
and joy of this world and life to be dropped in our mailbox to
brighten our day and to encourage and nourish our heart and spirit.
That is what my focus is: to brighten, encourage and nourish
everyone I can with my artwork and talents.
